The US Army, Microsoft, The New York Yankees, Starbucks and many other successful organizations devote significant time and attention to the subject of team-building. Whether in a classroom setting or during experiential learning, these groups become stronger thanks the ability of their personnel to function as a team.

We have over the years forgotten that business is a team sport, not an individual one. While it is true that there may be many individual tasks or functions within a business, the sum of the parts is not always greater than the whole. Somewhere somehow, all of the individuals must come together to become one complete organization. They must be unified in their focus, their preparation and their execution if they are to be champions.

Objectives

Using a sports team analogy and approach, members will learn the five basic phases in developing a team and performing as a team: Create and Focus on a Game Plan, Player Development, Roles, Execute at Game Time, and Post-Game Processing.

Outcomes

  • Identify and support the company's vision
  • Open lines of communication and cooperation among departments
  • Build commitment to team design
  • Gain commitment to the need for change
  • Complement initiatives around customer focus and/or process redesign
